Bolied Rose Petal Toner

A toner may not be part of your everyday skincare routine, but there are a whole host of reasons as to why it should be! Firstly, toners are a great way to minimise the appearance of pores and restore your skin’s pH balance. By using a toner to help close pores and tighten cell gaps after cleansing, you are also reducing the chances of impurities and environmental contaminants from penetrating the skin. Having a toner with natural ingredients means you will be giving your skin the ultimate form of TLC, and the results will be evident from your glowing youthful skin. Rosewater is renowned for not only smelling absolutely divine but also reducing redness of irritated skin, healing scars and strengthening skin cells. Many beauty brands have already discovered the skin-loving benefits of rose water, which is why you can find products such as the PIXI Rose Tonic and Garnier Natural Rose Water Toner on the shelves in health and beauty retailers. However, some of these products can be a bit pricey, so we thought we would guide you through the steps you need to know in order to make your own.

First, you will need roses (any colour you like), filtered water and witch hazel. Start by picking off the petals of each rose – we recommend using around 7 or 8. Then, rinse the rose petals to wash off any dirt or bugs and place them in a pot. After covering the petals with filtered water, turn your hob onto a low heat, cover and then leave to simmer for around 30 minutes to an hour. Once the time has passed, all that is left to do is strain out the rose petals and combine with your desired amount of witch hazel in a travel bottle.

Egg & Olive Oil Dandruff Solution

Dreaded dandruff is something no one wants, especially if you have darker hair which makes it all the more visible. Dandruff is commonly associated with poor hygiene, which makes people very self-conscious if they notice the small white flakes in their hair – but this is a misconception. Dandruff usually is just an indication of an irritated, oily or dry scalp. Shampooing often is the easiest way to remove dandruff from your scalp and hair, but our DIY solution has proven to be just as effective. To create your own ‘dandruff repellent’, all you need is 2 egg yolks and 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Start by whisking the ingredients together in a bowl until you get a smooth mixture. Apply the mixture to your hair starting at your roots and working your way down to the tips. Once you have entirely covered your hair and scalp, allow it to set for an hour. After an hour, simply wash the mixture off with a mild sulfate-free shampoo.

Cleanse With Kiwis

Cleansing your face daily is an essential step in any skincare routine for many reasons. Cleansing in the morning helps to remove any toxins your skin eliminates during the night and refreshes your skin, while cleansing at night is a great way to remove makeup, impurities, dead skin cells and excess oil. If you look on the shelves at your favourite beauty retailer, you will notice that many cleansers are designed to target a specific skin problem. For example, you can get cleansers for dry skin, acne prone skin, aging skin and oily skin. However, you can make your own all-in-one cleasner that can tackle any skin issue you may have by using kiwi fruit. If you want to delay the signs of ageing skin, then kiwi fruit is your new best friend. Kiwi’s have a high vitamin E content which aids the regeneration of new skin cells and also contains omega 3 properties which effectively combat UV damage to the skin. If your skin is acne-prone, then kiwis are also beneficial thanks to their anti-inflammatory properties which not only prevent acne from forming but also reduce the effects of many problems associated with acne. When used in a cleanser, the vitamin C content of kiwis also helps rid your skin of any dirt or impurities while simultaneously leaving your face glowing.

To make a kiwi facial cleanser, you will need:

  • 1 kiwi fruit
  • 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon of orange water
  • 1 tablespoon of apricot or almond oil
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 1 teaspoon of finely ground almonds
  • 2 drops of organge (or your favourite citrus) essential oil

To make your skin-loving cleanser, simply puree the kiwi fruit in a food processor until liquid. During processing, add in the yoghurt, orange water, almond/apricot oil, honey and ground almonds. When the mixture becomes thick and cream like, add the essential oil and stir to mix. When applying, all you need to do is gently massage the cleanser over your neck and face and rinse off thoroughly when finished.

Face Masks

As beauty specialists offering facials in Northampton and the surrounding areas, we know just how important it is for our clients to have a well deserved pamper session every once in a while. However, if you are stuck at home and your skin is crying out for a little pick me up, here are a few DIY face masks you should try.

Organic Banana Face Mask

With this tropical face mask, you can effortlessly give your skin a natural-looking glow in three easy steps. First of all, mash one half of a banana in a bowl and mix in a tablespoon of orange juice and a tablespoon of honey. Then just apply the mask to your face and keep the mixture on for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes has passed, all you need to do is rinse off with lukewarm water and moisturise.

Nourishing Honey Mask

As a natural antibacterial, honey is an excellent ingredient to use for a face mask if your skin is acne-prone. Moreover, adding yeast will also help effectively treat any acne you may have as it is rich in B vitamins. To make your own nourishing honey mask, start by brewing one cup of chamomile tea with two tea bags and leave to cool completely. Next, in a small bowl, stir together one tablespoon of raw honey and one teaspoon of nutritional yeast. Then you should add just enough chamomile tea to the bowl to create a thicker paste that’s still runny enough to spread across your skin, but not too watery. Finally, apply a thin layer to your face and let it sit for 20 minutes, rinse off and moisturise.

The Breakfast Mask

If you want a face mask that will help mattify your oily skin, then this breakfast mask is what you need. Start by combining one egg yolk, one tablespoon of honey, one tablespoon of olive oil and 60 grams of oatmeal. Stir the mixture well and apply to face, leaving it to work its magic for around 15-20 minutes. All that is left to do is rinse off the mask with lukewarm water and moisturise.
