With the trend of flawlessly shaped and styled eyebrows being the centre point of your look growing in popularity, it has become even more important than ever to achieve picture-perfect brows. One of the biggest parts to play in the quest for gaining immaculate brows is finding the shape and style that matches not only your tone but also your face shape. If you’re currently contemplating whether your eyebrows need a revamp, here is our guide on how to find the perfect eyebrow shape and style for you.

Finding The Perfect Eyebrow Shape

Here at Bianco Beauty, we are experts in semi-permanent eyebrows in Milton Keynes. Before even considering starting the process, we plan out the shape and style of the brows on the client to ensure they are perfectly suited to their face. This means we can visually estimate the outcome and make any necessary changes prior to starting.

Whether you brave doing your eyebrows at home or look forward to treating your to a visit to our clinic, it is vital to work out what shape would complement your face and enhance your features the most, starting with your face shape. So, let’s take a closer look into how you can create the perfect eyebrow for your face:

How To Measure Your Face Shape

First things first, you need to take a few measurements to define your face shape. Although this sounds strange, the best way to achieve this is to take a fabric tape measure and section by section, note down the measurements of your face. The four sections of the face you will need to determine your face shape are:

  • Forehead Width
  • Cheekbones Width
  • Jawline Width
  • Face Length

The main five face shapes are round, square, heart, long and oval. Once you have each measurement, use the following guide to discover your shape:

Round

If your cheekbones and face length hold a similar measurement and then your forehead and jawline also have a similar length, your face shape is round.

Square

All sections of your face hold a similar measurement.

Heart

The measurements of your face go from the longest to the shortest in the following order: forehead, cheekbones then jawline, the jawline is generally in a pointed shape.

Long

Your forehead, cheekbones and jawline are a similar shape, but your face length is considerably longer.

Oval

If you hold an oval-shaped face, then your face length will be a larger measurement than your cheekbone and your forehead bigger than your jawline.

How To Measure The Perfect Eyebrow Length

Not only is it important to gain an understanding of your face shape, but also to measure the perfect eyebrow length and pinpoint where your arch should peak. Here is a simple step by step guide on how to measure your eyebrow shape:

  • Grab a makeup brush; a thinner, longer brush would work best
  • Place the brush against the edge of the outside of your nostril and hold it horizontally up
  • The spot in which the brush touches is the start of your brow
  • Next, sit straight, looking directly into the mirror, measure from the same starting spot, but this time pointing towards your pupil
  • This is where the highest peak of your brow arch should be placed
  • Lastly, again start from the same spot but point towards the edge of your eye
  • This is where your eyebrow should end

How To Match Your Eyebrow Style To Your Face Shape

Next is the trickiest part; it’s time to decide on the style and shape of your eyebrow that will compliment your face shape best. As mentioned previously, the brow should enhance your natural beauty and highlight your most prominent, distinct features.

Round

For a round face shape, an angularly shaped eyebrow is best. A higher arch with a solid definition, angled at the corners is the best way to create the appearance of a more noticeable bone structure.

Square

Generally, people who have a square face shape have stronger natural features, so eyebrows should be used to soften up the face. Try to go for a rounder shaped brow with a lower arch and stay away from thicker eyebrows.

Heart

Those with a heart-shaped face are thought to possess more feminine, delicate features, so this should be suited to the brow. Go for a soft, round and petite eyebrow with a slight curve to suit the heart shape.

Long

Compliment the theme of a longer face shape with flat, straight looking eyebrows. Having a long face shape gives you the opportunity to extend your eyebrows further. However, if you do opt to extend your eyebrows, ensure they do not curve at the end as it could cause your eyes to look droopy.

Oval

Luckily, if you have an oval face, you are seen as having the most proportioned facial features meaning you can get away with naturally shaped eyebrows without the need for much additional work.

Drawing On Eyebrows With No Hair

It is common for some people to completely shave off their eyebrows so that they can create the perfect shape using their favourite makeup. Alternatively, instead of shaving off the entire eyebrow, some decide to shave from the centre of their brows to the ends. Other health conditions such as alopecia, psoriasis or stress can cause you to lose the hair on your eyebrows, which can be disheartening, especially when your eyebrows are usually a big feature on your face. However, whether you want to change the look of your brows or you need to draw on brows with no guidance of shape or length, then there are a few ways you can get the perfect results.

The first solution is semi-permanent makeup, which enhances your look while offering a more permanent solution. This is where our team will work with you to draw on a brow that suits your face shape and preferences, using measurements and expertise to perfect your look. A pigment is then added to the surface of your skin, and this will last between 18 and 30 months, depending on your skin routine and how well you take care of your skin.

However, if you want to establish what style and shape you prefer before booking in an appointment with the team, then here are some tips on how you perfect your eyebrow when you don’t have any natural hair to follow:

Soft & Natural

If you like a soft, natural and subtle looking brow that frames your face beautifully, then we would recommend purchasing a good quality eyebrow pencil in either the same shade as your natural hair, or if you have dark hair, then a light-medium brown. When looking for your eyebrow pencil, you want to make sure that you find one with a fine end so that you can easily mimic fine hairs. These are usually called micro eyebrow pencils, and they are ideal for filling in large gaps or drawing on a whole brow.

Bold Brows

If you want your brows to stand out more and become a feature on your face, then we would suggest using a pomade, which can also last longer, making it the perfect option for those going out for the entire day. Not only do they last longer, but they are also less prone to smudging and are usually waterproof. To use your pomade, you will also need to purchase a fine eyebrow brush if it has not come with one, which will have two different brushes at one end. While you may want bold brows, we would still suggest using small strokes to apply the brows to make them look more realistic, but feel free to fill them in slightly.

Drawing The Brow

As you will be working from a blank canvas, you will first need to draw on the eyebrow shape that you will be following. If you do not feel confident drawing your brows, then you can find stencils online to help you perfect your shape. For those that want to try it themselves, you will need to find an object with a straight line, such as a ruler or a piece of card. Start by placing a ruler so that it touches the outside corner of your nose and goes up to the very corner of your eye. You want to draw a small, faint line where your brow line starts to curve. Keeping the ruler in the same place, tilt it slightly so that it goes past your pupil and draw another line. Tilt again until you reach the outer corner of your eye and draw a line. This will be the base of your eyebrow shape. You can then draw a line between the lines you have just created and then patiently draw strokes for an eyebrow hair.

Watch the YouTube tutorial below for a detailed guide, and if you want a more permanent solution that doesn’t require you to apply the brows every morning, then feel free to contact our team for semi-permanent makeup in Northampton and the surrounding areas.

Tips On Maintaining The Perfect Brows

To lend you a helping hand, we’ve devised a small list of the top tips to maintain your eyebrows and keep them perfect at all times:

  • Tweezer only one hair at a time as it will reduce the risk of spots forming or skin irritation, and can help you achieve a more precise shape.
  • If you find it painful to tweezer hairs, try putting on some moisturiser or Vaseline before to soften the skin making it easier to pull out hairs
  • Keep eyebrows looking neat by trimming them regularly – simply brush up the hairs with a reusable mascara wand and trim with small eyebrow scissors. Only trim the longest hairs to reduce the risk of patches
  • If you have thin eyebrows and looking to thicken them up naturally, there are products such as growth gels available

Is Semi-Permanent Makeup Right For Me?

There are many reasons why a client may want semi-permanent makeup, whether it’s to give them back their confidence or offer them a solution that reduces time spent applying makeup every morning. The great thing about semi-permanent eyebrows is that you can shape them perfectly to your style, choose a colour that best matches your skin tone, and you can go swimming or work up a sweat in the gym without the makeup coming off. However, those that have not had the treatment before may be wary of what to expect and whether it is right for them. The key thing to remember is that when booking in a treatment with the Bianco Beauty team, your health and safety will always come first, and that’s why we complete patch tests before all treatments. The only reason that you would not be suitable for this treatment is if you show signs of irritation during the patch test. Other than that, most of our clients are perfect for the treatment, and love the results – take a look at the before and afters of Sigita Grysztar’s powder brows for just one example of a happy client!

To put your mind at ease, here is the process behind our semi-permanent eyebrows in Northampton and the surrounding areas:

  • The first step is to book in a consultation with the team, who will gather a better understanding of the look you are attempting to achieve and also complete a patch test to ensure that it is safe to go ahead with the treatment.
  • You will then be asked to come in after your patch test has shown no signs of irritation, and the team will talk you through the process again as well as aftercare information.
  • Your eyebrow shape will then be drawn onto your face with a pencil, and you are free to change the shape, alignments and size as you wish.
  • The pigment will then be applied to your brows in the colour of your choosing, using small strokes to mimic the appearance of eyebrow hairs.
  • You can then enjoy your brows straightaway, with no smudging and no need to apply your eyebrow makeup every morning!
